Fly Fishing Options: Day trips

Cairns – Port Douglas – Mission Beach

Freshwater

• Species: Jungle perch and sooty grunter and barramundi.
• Technique: Dry flies, bass bugs, poppers and large hoppers.
• Fitness: Easy to moderate  hiking, some cooling rainforest pools.
• Locations: Cairns, Port Douglas, Mission Beach.
• Pick-up and Drop-off : Cairns CBD, Port Douglas, Mission Beach
• Full Day 630-430pm
• Half Day 630 -12noon

River and Estuary 

• Species: Barramundi and mangrove jack, Gt, Tarpon, Queenfish and more.
• Technique: Edge/snag fishing, surface, sinking lines, great sight fishing options with right conditions.
• Locations: Mangrove lined rivers, flats inside river, lagoons, snags and runoff drains.
•  Tropical Sportfisher specializes in guided fly fishing and we will work to the conditions to offer the best fishing possible.

Coastal Flats Fishing 

• Species: Golden trivially, queenfish, permit, tusk fish, GT’s, and more.
• Locations: Coastal and tropical island flats, Flats inside rivers
• Sight Fishing: Crystal clear water offering the great sight fishing opportunities.
• Our flats fishing options are weather dependant , if its too windy on the day we’ll fish inside the river/estuary.                                                                                       

Tinaroo Fly Fishing:

• Target: Giant impoundment Barramundi, 1m plus fish
• Lake Tinaroo: First ever stocked barramundi lake, famous for many world record Barramundi
• Technique: Fishing brush flies on Intermediate lines to grass edges, Sight fishing in shallow bays with right conditions.
• Sounder Tech: We use our Hummingbird sounder to help locate the fish.
• Scheduled: During warmer months Oct- April only.

• Lunch, snacks, drinks, and quality gear supplied if required.

What to Bring:

• Long-sleeved shirt, hat, sunblock, polarized sunglasses.
• Wading boots (flats and backcountry)
• Camera
• Flies/Fly rod and reel outfits. (talk to guide prior to trip)
