• Rainforest Backcountry – Freshwater Fishing 

    Cairns’ only guided freshwater rainforest fishing experience

    Target iconic species like Jungle Perch and Sooty Grunter on foot, casting surface lures and flies in crystal-clear rainforest streams. This is a truly immersive tropical light-tackle experience—perfect for anglers chasing something different.

    The Experience

    • Walk-and-wade fishing through tropical rainforest creeks

    • National Parks access under unique guiding permits

    • Topwater action all day – fish aggressively hit surface lures and flies

    • Warm water wading – no waders required

    • Swim in the stream to cool off between sessions

    • All tackle provided – or bring your own if preferred

    • Pick-up available from Cairns CBD, Port Douglas & Mission Beach

    • Locations vary depending on weather and river conditions (up to 1hr 45min drive)

    • Moderate fitness required – walking over uneven terrain

    Trip Options

    • Half Day: 6:30am – 12:00pm

    • Full Day: 6:30am – 4:00pm

    • Includes lunch (full day), snacks, water, and electrolytes

    What to Bring

    • Wading boots or sturdy shoes suitable for rocky streambeds

    • Hat, long-sleeve shirt, sunscreen, and polarized sunglasses

    • Waterproof your camera if bringing one

    • We can loan a waterproof backpack if needed

    Tackle Overview

    Spin

    • 4lb mono, 1000-size reel, 2–4kg rod

    • Small surface poppers, unweighted plastics

    Fly

    • 5–6wt rods with floating line (shooting heads preferred)

    • Hoppers, large dries, foam bugs, small streamers, poppers (up to size 1/0)

    • Long casts and fast strips – far more aggressive than trout fishing
